Parents - The First Teachers
Parents are the first teachers. And, as the first teacher, the early stimulation of your child's mind is essential to your child’s intellectual development. As you raise your children from birth, you are the one who are teaching the child to walk, to speak, the alphabets, how to count, how to eat, how to learn from listening and so on. This is the informal education that is so crucial in building the foundation and the love of learning that comes later.
However, in this era in which we now live, your children and their peers are not just exposed to television, but also to the computer, the internet, and all of which it has to offer. It is important then
for you to use television programs, and the internet to support your parenting efforts and values rather than to fight against them.
Equally important, however, is the child’s emotional development. Meeting the child’s needs, loving the child, establishing a sense of security are key elements in a child’s emotional development. A child needs a secure and a predictable home environment to begin to explore through sight, touch, and words.
